Municipal Law and Land Use Planning, Litigation
Since joining our firm in 2009, Effie has assumed a wide range of duties in connection with our firm’s involvement with numerous municipalities in Ontario.
Effie has acted for a municipality as its general counsel and has experience with a broad range of municipal matters arising from day-to-day operations of the municipality, including drafting of by-laws, providing opinions on various municipal matters, preparing contracts, and representing the Town in employment actions, by-law enforcement and appeals before the Information and Privacy Commission and the Ontario Municipal Board.
In conjunction with her work for municipalities, Effie has acted as the lawyer for a shortline railway company and has prepared crossing agreements, and has represented the company in a property tax application in the Superior Court of Justice, and appeals to the Assessment Review Board.
With respect to civil litigation, Effie regularly attends before the Superior Court of Justice and Small Claims Court in representing a variety of clients in matters related to property disputes, contracts, insurance defence litigation and personal injury.
Prior to joining our firm, Effie articled with the City of Toronto’s Legal Division where she gained valuable experience in relation to litigation, land use planning, municipal law, employment, prosecutions, and real estate while acting under the supervision of the City’s in-house lawyers.
